Sam Johnson: Help Honor our Collin County Veterans this Saturday!

Dear Friend,
North Texas is home to many exceptional veterans, and as Veterans Day nears I am thrilled to announce the nine Collin County veterans who will be honored at my fourth annual Congressional Veterans Commendation (CVC) Ceremony on November 1st.
In case you aren’t familiar with this community-wide event, the CVC is a time when the people of Collin County come together to honor men and women who have faithfully served in our military and who continue to serve in our community as civilian leaders. This nominations-based program works to preserve these veterans’ stories for future generations of Americans.
This year’s nine honorees – selected in the fall by a board of directors – represent all five branches of our Armed Services. But more importantly, they represent several generations of faithful service to the protection of our Great Nation.
To help recognize Collin County’s veteran honorees, best-selling author Alvin Townley will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. I’ve had the privilege of working with Mr. Townley on his new book, Defiant, which was released earlier this year. He is a man who shares a deep appreciation for our Nation’s veterans and believes in the importance of passing down their inspirational stories to future generations.
Alvin’s book relates the story of the eleven American POWs known as the “Alcatraz 11,” which I was a part of. The book also tells how our wives founded the POW-MIA Movement and rallied a divided nation behind a common promise to POWs: You are not forgotten.
I look forward to paying our outstanding veteran honorees tribute for their military and civilian service on Saturday, and I hope to see you there as we pass down their examples of patriotism, bravery, and love of country to future generations! Let’s show our veterans how much we care in a tangible and personal way!

• Book signing with Alvin Townley, author of Defiant. (Books will be available for purchase, $25)
