BREAKING NEWS

Location of VA Clinic in Plano Announced!

After pushing for several years to get a VA clinic in Collin County for North Texas’ many veterans, I’m pleased to announce that the location for the new VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) will be at 3804 West. 15th Street, Plano, Texas 75075.  The new Collin County VA Clinic will make a huge difference for veterans because they’ll finally be able to receive high-quality care closer to home.  This is a huge win for North Texas, and I couldn’t be happier for our community and our hometown heroes.  It was the right thing to do, and our hard work is paying off.  It was great that this announcement also came on the heels of my bill, the Help Veterans Save for Health Care Act (H.R. 2514), being signed into law.  This law will help veterans with service-connected disabilities save for, pay for, and access quality health care.

We’re looking forward to our local VA Clinic groundbreaking in early fall, and I know North Texas veterans will breathe a sigh of relief when this clinic finally opens its doors sometime in the spring!  LEARN MORE HERE

On September 26th I had the distinct privilege to help honor some of our District's own Gold Star Mothers - women who have lost a child or grandchild that was actively serving our Great Nation. My thanks to Blue Star Mother's President K.D Rutherford for hosting, and to all our troops and their families...because we all know that when a person joins our military, it is the whole family that serves.

My Efforts on YOUR Behalf in Washington, D.C.

Defunding Planned Parenthood

As a proud champion of Life, one of my priorities has been to permanently defund Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion provider.  And with the revelation that this organization has been harvesting and selling aborted babies’ body parts and organs, it’s clearer than ever that Planned Parenthood must be defunded.   That’s why in September I voted TWICE to defund Planned Parenthood – once when I voted in support of The Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015 (H.R. 3134), and second when I voted against the Continuing Resolution for Fiscal Year 2016 because it failed to defund Planned Parenthood.  As a Christian, father, and grandfather, I believe ALL Life is precious and sacred and must be protected.   To learn more about my recent Pro-Life efforts and to see me speaking out against Planned Parenthood on the House Floor, CLICK HERE.

I had the joy and honor of meeting Denise and Bruce Kendrick and their family while they were in Washington, D.C. on October 7th.  I was proud to nominate the Kendricks, who were recognized as one of this year's Angles in Adoption. Congratulations Kendricks family!

Opposing President Obama’s Nuclear Deal
with Iran

On September 11th the House voted on President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.  And you can bet your bottom dollar that I OPPOSED it…in fact, I’ve been opposed to this bad deal since day one.  I even took to the House Floor on three separate occasions speaking out against it.  Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.  Make no mistake about it: this deal is beyond disgraceful…it is dangerous.  This deal will harm America’s national security as well as the safety, stability, and security of the region – and the world.  I don’t say this lightly.  I say this as one of the few Members of Congress who has actually seen combat, who fought in two wars, and who spent nearly seven years as a POW.  So please rest assured that I will continue to uphold my most sacred duty – I will do everything within my power to protect the lives of Americans, bring home our hostages, and safeguard our Republic from those who seek to destroy it.  The world cannot let Iran become a nuclear power.  To learn more about my stance on this nuclear deal and to see me speaking out against it on the House Floor, CLICK HERE.

It was an honor to help celebrate the service and sacrifice of all our Great Nation's airmen with so many patriots - and to speak on their behalf on September 18th. Over the three decades that I served in the Air Force as a combat pilot, I watched the Air Force grow to become what it is today. Our Air Force continues to bravely defend freedom, and I thank our airmen who are currently serving at home and abroad. In fact, at the Air Force birthday celebration,  I had the honor of meeting fellow airmen Spencer Stone, who recently helped foil a terrorist attack on a french train. Airmen Stone will soon be promoted to Staff Sergeant for his bravery. His efforts are a reminder that we must ALWAYS be vigilant in protecting our blessing of FREEDOM. God bless ALL our men and women in uniform - and their families. I salute you!

Protecting YOUR 2nd Amendment Rights

As a Constitutional conservative, I am a proud defender of YOUR 2nd Amendment rights.  President Obama, on the other hand, has made gun control a priority of his.  He has repeatedly tried to impose his radical gun control agenda on law-abiding Americans.  Thankfully, House Republicans have been able to head him off and STOP him.   But because he failed in Congress, he is now seeking to deny millions of folks their right to bear arms by going through Social Security!   This means that anyone who is a Social Security beneficiary who also happens to have someone they know and trust handle their Social Security checks for them would be prevented from buying a gun.  This is WRONG!  Old age or a disability does NOT make someone a threat to society.  All law-abiding citizens should have the right to own a firearm. Period. That’s why I blasted the President’s actions on the House Floor, and it’s why on September 16th I introduced the Social Security Beneficiary 2nd Amendment Rights Protection Act (H.R. 3516) – a bill that would stop President Obama’s gun grab.

If you have ever had your identity stolen, you know all about the frustrations, hassles, and struggles you have to deal with as a result of this crime. That's why, to help folks be proactive in defending themselves against identity theft, on September 21st I held a Fight Fraud Forum. My thanks to everyone who came out - and to Dama Brown with the FTC and Jessica Lesser with the Texas Attorney General for sharing your expertise.

CONGRATULATIONS to 2015-2016
CYAC Students!

I’m pleased to announce the 2015-2016 Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC) participants. The 87 Collin County high school students who will be serving as my “student ambassadors” are a great group – they’re bright, talented, and highly driven to make an impact in their community.  Now more than ever it’s imperative that our young people not only understand how our democracy works, but get involved so that they can make positive, wise contributions to our country.  That’s why I’m looking forward to hearing from these students on the issues that matter most to them and their peers and also to joining them in giving back through community service projects!  I congratulate the students of the 2015-2016 Congressional Youth Advisory Council and I thank all our students who applied!  For the full list of CYAC students, CLICK HERE.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DOWNTOWN PLANO for being named one of the Greatest Neighborhoods in America! It's a well-deserved honor, and I had the privilege of meeting Wendy Shabay and David Gattis, with the American Planning Association, who presented our community with this distinction! Way to go Downtown Plano!

CVC Keynote Speaker Announced!

North Texas is home to many exceptional veterans, and as Veterans Day nears I am thrilled to announce that our Keynote Speaker for this year’s Congressional Veterans Commendation (CVC) Ceremony will be Major Heather Penney.  Major Penney was one of two Air Force pilots who took to the skies on September 11, 2001 on orders to take down Flight 93 with her own aircraft before the terrorists reached Washington, D.C.

I look forward to joining Major Penney in paying our outstanding Collin County veteran honorees tribute for their military and civilian service on Saturday, November 14th.  I hope to see you there as we pass down their examples of patriotism, bravery, and love of country to future generations!  Let’s show our veterans how much we care in a tangible and personal way!

Thank you to the great folks at Verizon in Richardson for having me out to their facility on September 22nd. I enjoyed spending time with the welcoming employees during a meeting-and-greet. It is dedicated employees such as those at Verizon that continue to make North Texas the BEST place in Texas! Thanks again to everyone!
