Statement by Ranking Member on Social Security Subcommittee on COLA for seniors
Washington,
Oct 15 -
Today U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson (3rd Dist.-Texas), Ranking Member of the Social Security Subcommittee on the Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement after the Social Security Administration announced that due to falling prices, there will be no annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2010. In response, the White House has suggested spending $13 billion for a one-time $250 payment for seniors, railroad retirees, veterans and the disabled.
“These are tough times for everyone, especially seniors and the disabled, which is why I believe that we should consider providing a helping hand. That said, in a time of record deficits, we must do so in a fiscally responsible way.”
